Overview

To create opportunities for a new and diverse workforce, Approved Vendors must demonstrate that a minimum number of hours worked on Illinois Solar for All projects will be done by graduates from qualified job training programs. These include a number of programs initiated through the Future Energy Jobs Act, as well as other programs across the state that lead graduates to achieve “Qualified Persons” status under the Illinois Commerce Commission’s Part 461 rule.

Job training programs

Illinois Solar for All is committed to providing tools and resources that help accelerate solar workforce development in Illinois to qualified trainees, Approved Vendors and their installation subcontractors, and other workforce development stakeholders. This site will regularly expand content, including providing a list of all Illinois Solar for All Approved Vendors, solar installation contractors, and helpful information and links to qualified job training programs across the state. These resources will help connect qualified trainees and the firms hiring them.

    Solar Sense, Inc.

Sub-programs: Distributed Generation1-4 units, Distributed Generation 5+ units, Community Solar and Non-Profit/Public facilities

Solar Sense, Inc. is a central Illinois small business engaged in the sales and implementation of residential and small commercial PV systems in Champaign County and the surrounding counties. Solar Sense implements both Distributed Generation and small-scale Community Solar systems. Solar Sense’s involvement with the Illinois Solar For All program is specifically with the intention of distributing the benefits of solar energy to low-income and other disadvantaged users who are generally left out of the benefit cycle of new technologies. Even before initiation of the ISFA program, Solar Sense implemented a 20kW community solar system exclusive to subscribers that are low income households with young children or expecting new young children. Seeing the original system as an example, several local businesses have been recruited to donate space to host additional small CS systems on rooftops with the same goal – a free energy supplement to those most in need. Solar Sense management is particularly attuned to the value of young-life health care and education – good healthcare and education at the most critical phase of a child’s development, prenatal to 4 years – and believes by helping households through even small economic benefits, the young children of those households have a much better chance of a healthy and well developed early life and thus a much better chance of becoming a full, contributing member of society. Solar Sense selects ISFA projects that are suitable for these goals and implements them at no cost to the household / community service resource. Solar Sense, Inc. primarily acts as Authorized Vendor for its own projects but is provisionally available to represent other projects.
