Illinois Solar for All connects graduates of qualified job training programs with Approved Vendors, who are required to use qualified trainees on a percentage of their Illinois Solar for All projects. This ensures that low-income populations benefit from the state’s growing clean energy economy, not only through energy savings but also through the creation of jobs. Many graduates of these job training programs are returning citizens, foster care alumni, and members of environmental justice communities.

Overview

To create opportunities for a new and diverse workforce, Approved Vendors must demonstrate that a minimum number of hours worked on Illinois Solar for All projects will be done by graduates from qualified job training programs. These include a number of programs initiated through the Future Energy Jobs Act, as well as other programs across the state that lead graduates to achieve “Qualified Persons” status under the Illinois Commerce Commission’s Part 461 rule.

Job training programs

Illinois Solar for All is committed to providing tools and resources that help accelerate solar workforce development in Illinois to qualified trainees, Approved Vendors and their installation subcontractors, and other workforce development stakeholders. This site will regularly expand content, including providing a list of all Illinois Solar for All Approved Vendors, solar installation contractors, and helpful information and links to qualified job training programs across the state. These resources will help connect qualified trainees and the firms hiring them.

Founded in 1979, the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) works to ensure the equitable participation of its members in the design, engineering, and construction industries, while also promoting the growth, quality of work, professionalism, and integrity of these individuals and businesses. The organization works to provide scholarships for Hispanic college students and training for contractors looking to increase their firm’s construction capacity. Illinois Central College provides a nine-week immersion into the careers and opportunities that are available in the growing Illinois solar industry. In conjunction with two community partners, we offer four weeks of job readiness training and five weeks of technical, hands-on training. Participants are exposed to industry speakers, field trips and the latest in solar technology. At the conclusion of the program, graduates take the NABCEP PV Associate Exam.

Since 1972, Safer Foundation’s mission is to support the efforts of people facing barriers to employment, including those with arrest and conviction records, through a full spectrum of services and advocacy. Aiding these individuals assists them in their efforts to become productive members of the community.
