The Green Energy Justice Cooperative (GEJC) is owned by its subscribers and supporters. GEJC is led by experienced community solar developers. Its current portfolio of three 3MW will serve 2,000 community solar subscribers, at least 50% Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Individuals (SEDI). GEJC exists to lower the energy burden of low-income households by working with communities to develop energy solutions that not just lead to reduced energy bills but also provide meaningful benefits such as community ownership and wealth building, job creation, energy savings, profit sharing, entrepreneurship, LMI household access, resilience, and grid benefits. GEJC is founded by a seasoned group of community-based organizations with deep understanding of the intricacies of the burgeoning clean energy transition which has led to successful advocacy efforts yielding the landmark Clean and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), Illinois Solar for All, and the Community-Driven Community Solar programs.
